Liposuction

Liposuction is the process of removing unwanted fat from the body using a vacuum device and cannulas. This process removes fat deposits that cause deformities in our body. Depending on the purpose, Liposuction methods have names like: LIPOSHAPING, LIPOSCULPTURING, BODYSHAPING, LIPOPLASTY, SUCTION LIPECTOMY, etc. Basically, the essence and purpose of all these methods are the same. The main difference in Liposuction methods lies in the techniques used.

These are techniques such as laser Liposuction, vasor Liposuction, dry (dry), ultrasound-assisted lipoplasty, tummesent (giving liquid) Liposuction and super-wet. Between these methods, there is a difference in the recovery time of the patient and the results. We should not forget that Liposuction never replaces diet or exercise, it gives the desired shape to our body, removing fat deposits that cannot be removed by losing weight alone.

Application Areas of Liposuction:

Areas where Liposuction is often applied are the abdomen, waist, hips, thighs, inside of the legs, knees, arms, under the chin, and if necessary, it can be applied to other areas with an excess amount of unwanted body fat accumulation.

Candidates for Liposuction:

If the patient’s weight is close to his ideal weight, his skin has good elasticity, and he does not have diseases that will affect the result of the operation, this patient can be said to be an ideal candidate for Liposuction.

Deciding on Liposuction:

During your meeting with the plastic surgeon, you should realistically communicate your expectations regarding the success of the surgical procedure and ask that Liposuction and alternative treatments enlighten you in the direction of your expectations. If you are a suitable candidate for Liposuction, your doctor will examine you in terms of medical conditions you have had, medications you have used, blood charts and current health status, and will advise you on the steps to prepare for Liposuction.

Surgical Preparation Period:

  • Detection of excess fat accumulation in the body by inspection and digital imaging before Liposuction.
  • Determination of a corset suitable for the Liposuction area.
  • You must be given information about body hygiene before and after Liposuction.
  • You should be given detailed information about nutrition, medication use before and after Liposuction, an exercise program, and returning to daily life.
  • You should be told about the technique of Liposuction and the recovery process after the operation.

The Surgery:

Liposuction will be performed in a JCI certified hospital with general or local anesthesia. The type of anesthesia used is determined by the amount of adipose tissue, general health of a patient, areas to be removed, and approach of the patient.

Surgical application is carried out through small holes 3-4 mm long using a vacuum instrument or injectors using cannulas. With the help of a cannula passing through these small incisions, fat deposits are removed and the body is given the desired ideal shape. This small incision, which will later become weak, is closed and a suitable corset is put on the patient on the operating table. During and after surgery, fluid replacement, careful postoperative monitoring, and medication (drug therapy) are important.

When systemic symptoms normalize, the patient is sent home with recommendations. These recommendations are to rest at home for a few days, adhere to prescribed medications, do not use over-the-counter medications, drink at least 2 liters of fluid per day, and eat soft foods in the early days.

Postoperative Care Recovery:

After the operation, your doctor will call you for ligation and follow-up at appropriate intervals. During these few weeks, you may experience slight bruising, numbness, pain and burning in the areas where the Liposuction is performed, these symptoms are completely normal and will disappear within a few weeks.

Your recovery will be gradual. You will be able to return to work and have limited activation for a few days after the operation. The surgeon will recommend a walk early on. Within 7-10 days, the small wounds in the needle holes will heal and you will be back to your normal life. Massages lasting at least 20-25 minutes a day will begin.

In addition to massages, LPG or ultrasound therapy will be prescribed after 1 month. After 3-4 weeks, the corset you are wearing will be removed and you can return to your normal life. Noticeable swelling will disappear after 6-8 weeks, but already in the 3rd week you will begin to see the ideal shape of your body. Your surgeon will evaluate the result for you and for herself with the help of pictures taken before and after the operation and a computer archive. You must protect your new body shape with diet, exercise, and doctor’s advice.
